I am honored to serve as the principal of Hirsch Elementary School, the school I once attended as a child.  This will be my 18th year in public education and my 16th year in Spring ISD.  Prior to Hirsch, I taught high school math, 5th grade math and science, elementary art, and served as an assistant principal at Anderson Elementary.

When I’m not at school, I find joy in spending time with my husband and high school sweetheart, Joseph Patterson, and our three children, Joey, Jada and Jasmyn---oh, and our dog, Charlie!

At Hirsch Elementary, we are committed to growing future leaders who are life-long learners, critical thinkers and responsible global citizens.  I believe that education has the transformative power to not only uplift students, but also families and communities.  When we work together the possibilities of what our children can become and accomplish become endless.

Our theme for the year is, “Learning is a Journey That Never Ends.”  We look forward to the journey you and your child will take with us this year.

Hello, Hirsch Family! I am thrilled and filled with enthusiasm to be named your Assistant Principal. Last year I had the pleasure of leading a team of teachers, securing a grant for our campus, and of course working with your awesome children. I look forward to the continued academic progress that we will create together as we partner to ensure that Hirsch students achieve and excel.

With over ten years of teaching experience in both public and private schools, my educational toolkit is filled with engaging and interactive ways to teach curriculum and elevate student curiosity. Prior to joining the Hirsch Hawk Family, I was a District Literacy Coach in Aldine ISD. In this role, I coached teachers by building their capacity to find ways to help students engage and enjoy learning. This coaching methodology produced student growth and achievement. Prior to being an instructional coach, I taught Prekindergarten, Second, Fourth and Fifth grade students. The students I have had the pleasure of working with throughout the years can vouch to my love of teaching and my love for each and every one of them. They all think they are my favorite. And they are right!

In collaboration with Principal Patterson, I am committed to ensuring our Hawks soar to NEW and HIGH levels of achievement. I look forward to growing your children as future leaders who are life long learners and responsible global citizens. My guiding principle is to: “Teach each and every child as if he/she is my very own. I set expectations high and expect nothing less.” This folds perfectly into our campus theme: “Learning is a journey that never ends.” I am elated to be on this journey with all of you. This journey will require grace, patience, kindness and accountability. All of which we will model and extend to each other throughout the school year.

When I am not on campus, you can catch me at community events, attending my son’s academic and athletic events, dancing and filling my cup creating memories with my loving and supportive family and awesome and amazing friends!

I look forward to the achievement and growth we will make TOGETHER as a campus and as a community. Let’s Soar!

Hirsh Hawks family, Hello!
I am Ms. Melissa Fuentes, the new counselor for Hirsch Elementary. Although I am a Houston native, I have resided in Spring, Texas for twenty years now. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with specializations in reading and history from University of Houston graduating Cum Laude. Go Coogs! I am a first  generation college graduate from my family which makes me very proud. I also earned my Masters of Education degree in Administration from Sam Houston State University. Go Bearkats. I have been serving students and families in education for 22 years now. I have both elementary and middle school experience within those years of service.

I have served as a middle school teacher and an elementary school teacher. I have also been an administrator of a Fine Arts Magnet School Program.

When I am not working, I love to read, listen to music, and be the best fur momma to my cats that I can be. I also enjoy spending time at the beach or a lake with family and friends.
As your school counselor, my goal is to help your child reach their maximum potential by providing him/her with self regulating social and emotional tools that help him/her develop resilience and the capacity to utilize this knowledge in their daily life.

We develop our character muscle by overcoming challenges and obstacles. I want your child to know that they are greater than any obstacle that crosses their path. Why? Because they are a Hirsch Hawk through and through. They already have their wings, now it is their time to soar to new heights!
